Cambodia’s apparel exports down 28% to $555 mn in Jan 2023
Cambodian apparel and accessories (knitted), which were exported to the United States in January 2023 (Chapter 61) earned $350.294million. This was 33.4% less than $526.055 million that the country received during the same period 2022. The exports of Cambodian apparel and clothes accessories (not knitted), dropped 16.5 percent to $205.371 Million during the review. This category saw the exports from the country of $245.896 billion in January 2022. This is due to a slowdown in global demand.
As for the imports, the country’s knitted or crocheted fabric (Chapter 60) imports during January 2023 were valued at $204.822 million, 37.3 per cent lower than the imports worth $326.837 million in the same period of 2022. The imports of manmade fiber (Chapter 56) decreased 20.8 percentage points to $117.224million. This compares with the $148.100million in January 2022. The imports of Cotton (Chapter52) fell 26.1% to reach $46.950million, against $63.565 million for the same period in 2022.
The general department for customs and excise of ministry of economy, finance and statistics showed that Cambodia’s apparel exports declined by 28.01% to $556.65 million in January 2023. That account accounts for 35.41 percent of its total foreign earnings of $1,567.867 millions. The country’s apparel exports grew by 12.69 percent to $9.035 million last year.
In 2022, Cambodian apparel exports grew 12.69% to $9.035 Billion. The shipment decreased in the latter months of last year.
